Grammar has logical rules. Shakespeare was a genius. I am officially retired but still enthusiastic about helping young people along their journey of learning. Pre-teens may be my favorite age group yet Algebra is perhaps my favorite subject. Learning is all about making connections between what is known, to what is unknown. I think I am pretty good at leading students Socratically down that path. Regarding math algorithms, I am a bit stubbornly old-school, but I am very familiar with new ways of teaching. I believe arithmetic is rooted in a strong understanding of our base-10 number system. I am well-versed in bad Dad jokes. What did the acorn say 20 years later? Gee I'm a tree!

Teaching Specialization

I spent half of my career in Middle School Math with sidesteps into high school math and college business adjunct positions. The other half of my career was as a Specialist in AIG - Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted as North Carolina calls it. That allowed me to work with scholars from K-8, mostly 4-8, in all four core subject areas with forays into STEM, SEL, and Financial Literacy. I am now officially retired with 29 years of experience.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0759/7175/6319/files/23b2f70f-c52d-460e-a4b6-68e08d2c6218.jpg?v=1700080520
