All children need to feel you care about them before they will care about what you're teaching. I think starting the first few sessions getting to know the student pays big dividends in the future. Teaching is a mixture of science and art. The science part involves data collection and observing the student and the art is being creative and thinking outside the box when it comes to planning lessons.
